Will Records
Wills are useful sources of genealogical information as they name relatives of the deceased person and also show the relationship. Also it may provide a more complete social picture of your ancestor.
From the years 1900 to the present day any wills that have been presented for probate and their associated papers are available. For those who did not leave a will but their next of kin applied for letters of administration from the court, these papers are available also.
From 1858 to 1900 only transcripts of many of the wills still survive. Before 1858 a large number of wills exist, some going back to the 1600s, but many more have been destroyed.
